Rakhi Sawant gets 12,515 marriage proposals in 20 days

From businessmen, doctors to models and NRIs – over 12,500 men from across the world have sent applications to marry controversy queen Rakhi Sawant after she announced a ’swayamvara’ as part of a reality show on NDTV Imagine.

Within 20 days of the announcement of the unique reality show ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamwar’, expected to go on air next month, a huge number of men have sent their profiles to woo Rakhi.

The item girl-turned-actress, who has mostly hit headlines for her outspoken ways, is overwhelmed with the response.

‘I want to thank everybody for their continued support. This huge response has proved to everybody that my ’swayamvara’ and ’shaadi’ (wedding) is not a joke. My only wish is to find a person who will always be my support system and will respect me for what I am,’ Rakhi said in a press release.

Rakhi had shocked one and all when when she had announced that she would choose a groom for herself through a reality TV show.

After a series of selection procedures, Rakhi will choose from among 15 grooms on the show and will take the help of viewers to decide on her ideal man.

According to the channel, the capital has topped the list of Rakhi’s prospective grooms with 2,465 entries. Mumbai follows a close second with 1,980 entries. Most entries are in the broad age group of 18 to 35.

Those who are keen and are yet to register for becoming the love of Rakhi’s life still have a chance as the last date for registration is May 5.

Abhishek Bachchan to play Amitabh’s father in ‘Pa’

In what may be a role reversal in reel life, actor Abhishek Bachchan is all set to play Amitabh Bachchan’s father in R Balki’s upcoming film ‘Pa’, ‘Femalefirst’ reported.

The details about the film are being kept under wraps but Big B has already hinted in his blog that his look will be a surprise.

“In ‘Pa’ Amitabh plays the alienated and slightly retarded son of Abhishek, and his look has been specially created by make-up men flown in from London,” a source told the website.

The mega star had earlier said that he spends five hours a day in make-up for his role in the film but there is not much known about his character or storyline of the film.

However, some reports suggest that the superstar will be seen without his signature French beard in the film.

The project is being kept a secret, with no-one from outside the unit being allowed on set, and those who are working on the production are not permitted to speak about the film to the media.

This will be Bachchan’s second project with Balki, who had earlier given the actor a make-over in ‘Cheeni-Kum’. Bachchan had played quirky chef, who falls for a woman half his age in the film.

Mallika Sherawat honoured with ‘Arts Award’ in New York

After becoming the first Bollywood celebrity to have a ‘milkshake named after her at the hotspot ‘Millions of Milkshakes’ in Hollywood city, Mallika is all set to accept the prestigious ”Arts Award” in New York.

The sexy actress was honoured on Friday (April 24) for her unparalleled contributions to and influence with the Indian Diaspora.

The event was organized by Honorable Jerramiah Healy, the Mayor of Jersey City and the New Jersey co-chair of President Barack Obama’s primary campaign to honour the Indian community and its contributions to the United States.

Out of America’s 100 largest cities, Jersey City has one of the largest percentages of South Asians. Area politicians, business persons, and members of the press attended the event.

As a congressional honoree, U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone (father of the India Caucus in the U.S. Congress), among others, graced the event with his presence. The host of the event was JCHA Commissioner Raj Mukherji (the youngest commissioner in city history to serve the Housing Authority).

Feroz Khan was the only man who called me baby: Hema Malini

Yesteryears beauty Hema Malini took a minute out of her busy campaigning schedule to share a few anecdotes about legendary actor, the late Feroze Khan. She recalled that he was the only person she knew who called her baby. Constantly used to being addressed respectfully, she admits that at first it was a shock to her and her mom to hear him addressing her so. But she reveals that she wishes more people used a familiar term of endearment for her the way Feroze did.

Hema Malini goes on to recount that when he signed her up for his hit movie Dharmatma, he made it very clear that she would be present only in the first-half. He then proceeded to revamp her role and make it a sensuous one – a role she had never done before. She divulges that it was Feroze’s ambition to make her more glamorous than her peers. Dharmatma was shot at Kabul and the actress remembers that it used to be freezing cold, and that she and her mom used to keep to themselves after the shooting. But Feroze Khan, with his inimitable flair, coaxed even Hema’s reticent mother out of her shell.
